Cousin called trying to access Combat Arms via FireFox using Vista. He could load the Combat Arms website, but then it would hang and in the lower left hand corner he could see it was trying to load something from google-analytics.com. Here is the interesting part, I sent him to jdsportsonline.com and it has analytics installed on the website and yet he was able to load the page without a problem. Anyway, he said he was having this issue at some other sites also. Basically, googleanalytics is a place that stores information from your computer so website operators can view who has been to their site. Anayltics gets this information by running a small java script, which I have heard is called Urchin. The follow is the fix I gave him that worked.
Fix:
Using Firefox, at the top of a Firefox page click on Tools and select Options
Then under the General tab select Manage Add-ons
Look for Adblock, if you do not see it then select Get Add-ons
For me it was the 1st Recommended add-on, for my cousin he had to see all available add-ons.
He found it and clicked Add to FireFox
At this point, I had to talk him through it as I did not install this on my computer. I had him, from the managing add-ons window select the Adblock Plus add-on and then select options
You should see current “filters” websites. I had him add the filter of www.google-analytics.com
He then opened a new firefox window and Combat arms loaded perfectly.
Best of Luck,
JD
