When John and I meet new people, we are often asked “How did you find each other?” My short answer used to be “through a mutual friend”. Now that we have been together for nearly 2 years, I realize there were many events that led to our meeting.

In 2010, I realized my relationship with my ex was not healthy. I believed, however, that a “strong” woman would endure a toxic, unfulfilling relationship so her children would have the benefit of a two parent home. By the end of April 2011, I had decided that I would just accept my fate, for my children’s sake, and remain in the relationship.

That is when I got the phone call that would change my life. My step father called to tell me that my mother had been found in bed unresponsive. She had been rushed to the hospital. After 45 minutes, her vital signs stabilized somewhat and she was admitted to the ICU. My step father asked me to come, but felt my mother might not be alive when I arrived. I packed a bag, booked a flight from Alaska to Texas, and began to prepare myself for the difficult road ahead of me.

When I arrived in Texas, my mother was in grave condition. I spent every day at her bedside, and most nights as well. Each day brought more devastating news; sepsis, possible stroke, blood clots, failing organs, etc. At one point I called our family and suggested they come say their goodbyes.

One day, she showed some improvement. The next day, there was a little more. One day at a time, my mother was healing.

During the long days of her very slow recovery, my mother and I shared many hours just talking to each other. I finally told her about my failed relationship. She listened, she didn’t judge, she offered insight, but didn’t try to influence my decision. Never once did she tell me that a “strong” woman would stay in a hurtful, toxic relationship “for the kids”. She helped me realize that LEAVING an unhealthy relationship takes strength; strength I didn’t know I had. For weeks she fought for her life, which gave me the courage to fight for mine.

I was able to stay with her throughout her crisis because of the generosity and support of my family and friends. My father tells me that because of my daily presence at her side, my mother was able to pull through and go on to live another wonderful year. I see things a little differently….

Somehow, I knew my place in the world for that moment in time was in Texas, so my precious children could be with extended family and feel the love and support and generosity that I had felt all my life. After four long weeks in ICU, my mother was able to be moved to a rehabilitation facility. After getting her settled in and on her way to a full recovery, I was able to return to Alaska. I now had the strength and courage to end the harmful relationship. I was looking forward to my new life and the adventures I was about to begin. As my mother began learning to walk and regain her independence, so did I.

In December 2011, I flew back to my hometown of Corpus Christi, Tx and began to settle in. I will always be so truly thankful for that move, because it allowed my children and I to enjoy eight additional precious months with my mother before her death.

I was focused so hard on this new path in my life. Every day was a new challenge as I tried to gain insight about myself, and started to heal old wounds. That was when I ran head-on, full-speed into my destiny. John and I met on Facebook, and from the moment we began a conversation, we did not go more than a few hours without talking to each other. He showed me a life I never thought possible. Through his kindness, patience, and understanding I learned that not only do I WANT to live every possible moment feeling this blissful, this loved, and completely fulfilled; but I DESERVE it. Because of John, I was able to hold my head up and see this beautiful world. I felt like I was finally, truly able to live a happy life. When I saw myself through John’s eyes, I saw more than just a woman, more than just a mother, more than just a nurse. I saw a compassionate soul…a soul with value and worth.

It was a blessing that my mother was able to meet John. She witnessed as the tiny ember inside of me grew into a bright flame full of life as John and I fell more deeply in love each day. She said it was something she had never seen in me before, and she was so glad I had found him. My mother had brought me into the world, and now…42 years later, she watched as my life began.

If my mother had not gotten so acutely ill, I wouldn’t have had the chance to spend time with her…. If I hadn’t had the chance to spend time with her, I wouldn’t have found the courage to end my relationship and move back to Texas…. If I hadn’t moved back to Texas, I never would have met my Sweet John.

I now realize that during that time of crisis, that time I was supposed to be “saving” my mother, she was saving me.

These are our personal favorite places to eat and some of the places to avoid. It is a personal joke how we say, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a way to put all the restaurants we love online. You know, like a website or something that does reviews.” lol. This is that list. Not a complete review of places, but enough so we can figure out where to eat.

Hours: Sun – Sat Open ?? – Although the bar stays open later, food is served til midnight, except Sundays, where the kitchen is closed.

AWESOME! I had the Chugiak Philly and it was the Best I have ever had until I ate at the Windbreak in Wasilla. The bread and lots of cheese really make this want you to stuff as much as you can in your mouth. The order comes with fries, they were not really worth it, but I did eat them.

Wasilla, Alaska

Baked Potato – Yes, just for Jennifer

Silver Fox - 50 George Parks Hwy Wasilla, AK – (907) 892-6179

AWESOME! According to Jennifer this is the best Baked Potato she has ever had. This place is a full service bar with 7 pool tables and 7 dart boards, plus many other electronic games are available.

Chicken Nuggets

Silver Fox – 50 George Parks Hwy Wasilla, AK – (907) 892-6179
Hours: Sun – Sat 4pm – Whenever it dies down up until 4am. Food is served from 4pm – 11pm Sunday -Thursday. Friday & Saturday 4pm-12am Steak night is Friday & Saturday

Pretty crunchy and really jucy, a tad over cooked but all’ in’ all they were good.

Enchiladas

Chepo’s – 731 W Parks Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654 (907) 373-5656
Hours: Mon -Thurs & Sunday 11am-10pm Friday& Saturday 11am-11pm

These cheese enchiladas were not very impressive. I would not order them again to consume , however I might order them again to compare to other places.

Fajita

Chepo’s – 731 W Parks Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654 (907) 373-5656
Hours: Mon -Thurs & Sunday 11am-10pm Friday& Saturday 11am-11pm

The fajita’s are the best we have had in Wasilla, however there are other places we still haven’t explored.

Hamburgers

Silver Fox – 50 George Parks Hwy Wasilla, AK – (907) 892-6179
Hours: Sun – Sat 4pm – Whenever it dies down up until 4am.
Food is served from 4pm – 11pm daily. Steak night is Friday & Saturday

We had a great burger. It was huge and very tasty. This is currently our #1 Burger Place in Wasilla. This place is a full service bar with 7 pool tables and 7 dart boards, plus many other electronic games are available.

Chepo’s – 731 W Parks Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654 (907) 373-5656
Hours: Mon -Thurs & Sunday 11am-10pm Friday& Saturday 11am-11pm

This burger is sort of similar to a burger king burger how ever , further testing needs to be done.

Jalapeno Poppers

Silver Fox – 50 George Parks Hwy Wasilla, AK – (907) 892-6179
Hours: Sun – Sat 4pm – Whenever it dies down up until 4am. Food is served from 4pm – 11pm Sunday -Thursday. Friday & Saturday 4pm-12am Steak night is Friday & Saturday

These were cream cheese filled, nice and crunchy but very bland.

Mini Chimis

Chepo’s – 731 W Parks Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654 (907) 373-5656
Hours: Mon -Thurs & Sunday 11am-10pm Friday& Saturday 11am-11pm

The jalapeno cheese dip that came with the minis was really good. However the minis themselves were similar to the old rolled corn chicken store bought minis. so still tasty , just really wasn’t worth trying more then once.

Nachos

Chepo’s – 731 W Parks Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654 (907) 373-5656
Hours: Mon -Thurs & Sunday 11am-10pm Friday& Saturday 11am-11pm

These Nachos were your average good Nachos, lacking the wow factor. Would not order a second time unless to compare to other nachos. I should add Jennifer really liked these.

Onion Rings

These onion rings are really good, nice crispy outside and big flavorful inside.

Philly

#1 Windbreak Hotel Lounge – 2201 E Parks Hwy, Wasilla, Alaska – (907) 376-4484

Okay, here is what we actually did. We ate at Windbreak and Birchwood in the same night to see who really does have the best Philly in Alaska. Windbreak won! I still might edge out the bread from Birchwood, but the overall taste of the Windbreak Philly is really good. This is now the best Philly I have ever had! This is by far Jennifer’s favorite. Actually it was her that kept saying how good they were, so I had to order from both places to find out once and for all. She was right of course, lol

Popcorn Shrimp

These shrimp were your standard breaded shrimp, they were pretty good as far as shrimp goes.

Sushi

Tokyo Restaurant & Sushi Bar – (907) 357-8888, 735 W Parks Hwy

Really good sushi; the best we have had yet in Alaska. It wasn’t awesome, but it was really, really good. The atmosphere is what you expect from a restaurant and Sushi bar. All-in-all we really enjoyed ourselves. The Hollywood Roll actually was served to us while on fire. That was cool! It ended up tasting rather grilled. This is actually Jennifer’s favorite roll. I had the Italian Roll and it was delightful. Adrienne had the Tuna Roll, it was our least favorite. The 3 rolls and Gyoza as an appetizer cost us $53 plus $15 = $68. We didn’t have drinks. Yes, we will definitely come back.

Wings

These wings were crispy and good, though I would ask for the sauce on the side. I didnt really enjoy the sauce that much.

John and Jennifer’s Road Trip
Corpus Christi, TX – Dallas, TX
June 1-3, 2012

Jennifer had purchased a couple of tickets to see Nickleback perform in Dallas, TX just before we had gotten together as a couple. As the date approached, we tried to sell them in hopes of getting some of her money back. We didn’t think we would be able to go and thought selling the tickets would be our best option. However, we couldn’t sell the tickets and decided, wth, let’s just make a road trip out of it. Our thought was to leave around midnight on Thursday and be in Dallas around 7 or 8 in the morning. However, around 1am I started working on building a play list for Jennifer’s Zune Music Player, which we can integrate with the car and listen to on the road. Then I discovered a website that will convert YouTube files into a MP3 format for free! The site is FLVTO, I mean seriously, any YouTube music video converted to MP3, I was blown away! Lol, so around 6 hours later, after staying up all night building my play list, I was finally ready to go.

I, of course, drove the whole way. We stopped to refuel somewhere outside of Austin where a subway was attached to the gas station and Jennifer wanted to try their pizza. It wasn’t too bad for a pizza made from a sandwich shop. Nothing you would want to really go out and get, but if you found yourself in a Subway and didn’t want the norm, well, it was edible.

Afterwards, we pulled into a Graham Central Station parking lot and I thought I would take a nap. The lot was empty and huge, but I managed to park under a small tree for some shade. I kept the car running for the A.C. and well, one thing led to another and soon it became an afternoon delight! After that, we fell asleep in the parking lot for about 30 minutes.

Below is a video of the road trip part of our adventure

Friday

Knights Inn Market Center – 1550 Empire Central, Dallas TX
We finally made it to Dallas around 3pm or so and checked in. We stayed at Knights Inn Market Center and it was the first times I have said, “this is horrible” about a motel room. The place did offer WiFi, so that was good. The bed seemed okay enough, but the mold in the bathroom, that was just something I wasn’t used too. This was a very basic room, meaning, no coffee maker, no little frig, no microwave, no iron, basically if it wasn’t a bed or a desk this room didn’t have it.

After Jenn and I christened the room, we passed out on the bed. We woke around 9pm, took a shower, but by the time we were ready to head out the concert was over, lol. We were wide awake and decided to head out and see what the town had to offer on a Friday night.

The Fan Sports Lounge – 2990 Olive Street, Dallas TX
Our first stop was to The Fan Sports Lounge. It was pretty dead on a Friday night. It looked really nice though and had a decent bar food menu, but there were more people staffed than actual customers in the place. A pint of beer cost us $4 a piece, so it was somewhat pricey for what we usually pay in Corpus Christi, TX and we asked for the beers dressed with salt and lime, but the bartender didn’t do it. Service was pretty poor as our beers went empty and no one waited on us. They even had nice looking servers, but the one working our area was sitting at a table talking with a group of guys. We decided to go find another place.

Sue Ellen’s – Throckmorton Street, behind JR’s
After our sad experience with The Fan, we headed out in search of a lesbian bar called Sue Ellen’s on Throckmorton street off of Cedar Springs Rd. If you are not local this place is not that easy to find. The entrance is behind JR’s on a side street and there is no sign above the door. We got there after 10pm on a Friday so the cover charge was $6 a piece. This place is awesome! It is two floors and if you are a guy, the place can be packed, but there is no waiting to use the rest room, lol. They also have free popcorn, which for me, makes any bar special. We ordered a pitcher of beer $8.50 and sat at a table that was raised so we could watch the people dance. Jennifer and I had a great time and if you are looking or have never experienced a lesbian bar, then treat yourself and check this place out. As 2am rolled around, there was no urgency to get out. The staff picked up the drinks as you finished; ours was picked up at 2:08am. The music kept going and people kept dancing. Around 2:45am, the place finally began to clear out and we were getting hungry so we headed out.

Below is a Video of the dance floor at Sue Ellen’s

After 2am, Sue Ellen’s picked up the drinks, but the party kept going:

Mr. Panda’s – 3917 Cedar Springs Rd, Dallas TX
At 3am, Cedar Springs Strip was still packed with people. Clubs were still letting people in and there were a couple of food places open. We decided to eat at Mr. Panda’s. They had a full Chinese menu and we ordered Sweet & Sour chicken. The place was very nice and a little dark. The atmosphere was interesting because of the club music coming through the walls from next door. Overall, the food was okay. The experience for us was great because our city of Corpus Christi, TX only has a couple of late night options available.

Saturday

El Fenix - 1601 McKinney, Dallas TX
The next “morning” we decided on Mexican food. We headed over to try El Fenix located downtown. There were over 20 El Fenix restaurants in the area, but we had read a review that stated they had really good sour cream chicken enchiladas. However, when we got there and saw some nacho’s with guacamole and that being one of our favorite foods, we had to order those first. They were really good and we would highly recommend them. As for the enchiladas, well, they were good, but nothing I would go out of my way for. Overall, the experience was nice. The cost of the meal was pretty inexpensive, only $12.94 + $3.00 tip = $15.94.

Wasabi Sushi & Grill – 2110 W. Eldorado Pkwy Suite #160, McKinney TX
For dinner we were meeting up with one of Jennifer’s cousins, Becki, and her husband John (pictured left). We drove out to McKinney, TX and met them at a sushi bar called Wasabi Sushi & Grill and it was OMG good, it had the best sushi we have ever tasted If you are anywhere near this place and you like sushi, then treat yourself to this experience. We enjoyed the great company and closed this place down. Eventually we had to say goodbye and head back to Dallas.

Across the Street Bar – 5625 Yale Blvd, Dallas TX
We started checking online to see which bar we would visit this night. We decided on a place called Across the Street Bar. Now, first off it was a hot night and this place was an open air bar, meaning no A.C. It is a college bar and was packed this Saturday night with a live band playing outside. It seemed like it would have been fun, but it was just too hot for us, so we left; didn’t even order a drink.

Adair’s Saloon – 2624 Commerce St., Dallas, TX
We decided to head down to the Deep Ellum district in Dallas and go to small dive bar called Adair’s Saloon. This little place was great! There was no cover and a live band was playing. However, the sound level was not blaring and you could easily have a conversation. One of the first things Jennifer and I noticed was there was a lot of hot women here. It was just so odd. Here was this little dive bar in Deep Ellum and it was filled with very attractive women. This place also serves bar food, but we were here for the beer. We ordered a pitcher $10 and enjoyed the music and watching the people. Later I ordered popcorn, but it is just put into a microwave, at least they put it into another container before serving you. If you do go and plan to stay til closing, be ready to be kicked out at 2am, so plan accordingly.

Dallas has several street vendors in different areas of the city, mostly found where the night life is. This was a new experience for me, since the only time I had seen this was down in Mexico. As we left Adair’s, we saw this little stand and it smelled so good. Although I usually don’t eat things like this I thought maybe I should give it a try. When I placed my order I was surprised to see the vendor actually wash her hands. The sausage hot dog was surprisingly one of the best I had ever tasted. Jennifer and I split one as we sat in the car watching people wander around. This part of Deep Ellum was closing down, so we thought we would try a couple of streets over.

Cafe Brazil – 2815 Elm St, Dallas TX
We turned on Elm St. and this area was still packed with people at 2:15am. We decided we wanted to get some coffee after seeing a Cafe Brazil. We walked in and were directed to a table. What I thought was just a coffee shop had a full menu, including 3 different ways to make Migas (the link is to a video I made of making Migas quickly many years ago), which is one of my favorite breakfast items. We ordered Bottomless Coffee and the Loaded Cheese Fries (Pound of Cheese Fries with Bacon, Chives and Jalapenos) (pictured right). The coffee was awesome. There was 7 different gourmet types to choose from and the cheese fries were extremely tasty too. We had a great time eating and talking, it was a wonderful ending to our evening.

Sunday

I woke up and started doing my daily Morning Work on my laptop while Jennifer slept in. Eventually I woke Jenn and she got ready for our drive back to Corpus Christi. By the time I was finished getting ready, I was running a little late for our 11am check out.

Cafe Brazil – 3847 Cedar Springs Rd
Around 11:30am we were on the road and one of the places I wanted to eat breakfast was of course Cafe Brazil. According to Jenn’s GPS talking phone, the nearest one was on Cedar Springs Rd. which was in the gay district. Right off, you could see this one was smaller, but quaint. As I entered I noticed it was rather warm inside, around noon the sun begins to stream in through to glass wall. Although they have tried to tint the windows, it is no match for the blazing sun. If you do find yourself here during a hot day, make your way to the back. There was a little hallway on the opposite side from the entrance. At the end of the hallway was a little room with it’s own A.C. Unit. Also, although they claim to have free wifi, the signal was not strong enough to maintain a connection. We, of course, ordered Migas and I was excited to try these. However, when the meal came I almost laughed at the Rosemary new potatoes they served with it (pictured left). This meal didn’t taste like Mexican food at all. The tortillas were some small store bought things I wouldn’t really call torts. Now, I will admit, the rest of the food was okay tasting, but nothing I would eat again.

We decided on the way home we would take a different route from the main highway. After a couple of hours of driving the back roads I started to get sleepy and we decided to get back to the main highway. We stopped a few times for snacks and the trip back was fun and full of laughter.

Thursday

Visit #1: Tonight was $1 well and $1 Pint and we had an awesome time. Lino took care of us and I swear he has some Brittney Spears moves down. Tonight I had Jennifer, Michelle, and Sunshine. They were wild and a lot of fun.

Friday – Midnight count 73

Visit #1 Nov 16,2012 – Started at 10:30pm, tonight’s special was $1 well and $1 draft. The music was extremely loud and vibrated your core. The DJ was playing a lot of Hip Hop type rap music, not really my thing. Although there was a dance floor, no one was dancing

By 11pm the ratio of women to men was at least 3 to 1.

By midnight, although there were 73 people in here and mostly women, I decided to leave.

Saturday

Sunday

Outta Bounds is an 18 and up bar, so you will find a younger crowd here. However, my old self has never felt out of place. Jennifer and I like it for its cheap drinks and we especially love the service of Candiie Diamond, (pictured left) she is awesome! (She no longer works here, last I heard she is at Theo’s)

One of the odd things is they don’t allow you to take pictures. So, if you plan to have a night out and want to remember the wild night, then this is not the place for you. Of course, if you want to insure you won’t find any compromising photos of yourself on Face Book, then this might be the place for you.

Drink Specials: (The Specials have changed, but they still offer a lot of $1 stuff)

I sat at a table by the shuffle board and plugged in.

Cover Charge: No

Credit Cards Accepted: Standard

Dress Code & Age Allowed in (18 & up): I didn’t see anything posted, however the crowd is a younger-fun-pretty-people type. Dress is casual, saw lots of jeans and t-shirts

Atmosphere:

Music Type – Jukebox, DJ, & Live Music, depends on the night.
Monday: Live Texas Country
Tues & Wed DJ with Chris Alvarez
Thurs: – Jukebox
Friday - Live Music
Saturday - DJ
Sunday - Karaoke

Noise Levels: With the live bands it does get loud if you sit in front of the stage, but you can sit in the back or the smoking section to get a break from the high volume.

Light Level: Lighted enough to see across the bar and then some. Not bright or anything, but lighter than most bars.

Crowd type: There is a younger crowd here as the night progresses, you usually find an older crowd before midnight. The women are very nice to look at and one thing I should note is that everyone seems well behaved for an 18 and up bar.

Smoking Area:The entire smoking area is covered, which is nice during the rainy times. There are 14 Tables outside, but it fills up quickly. There isn’t a bar or beer well outside.

Food Served: No food is served

Dance Floor: There is a space in front of the stage, but when a live band is playing sometimes they take up this area.

Bathrooms:

Mens: 2 urinals and 1 stall. It is small, but functional. There is an actual mirror in here.

Womens: 2 stalls, seems a little skimpy, but that seems to be enough.

Amenities: 2 pool tables, 1 foose ball table, 1 Shuffle board table, jukebox, multiple big screen TVs.

Types of Seating: Padded bar stools at the bar only and non padded bar stools at the high tables, booths, and some standard tables and chairs

Service: They have a nice balance between Bartender and Cocktail server.

Our favorite cocktail server, Candiie Diamond always took care of us. I am sure whoever they have on duty will probably do a great job. The bar itself is u-shaped and when sitting at the bar Jenn and I always prefer to sit on the side where the bartender Thad Albornoz is working.

Free Pour: Measured pour

Personal Experience each day of the week:

Monday

Visit#1 (9:45pm): Everyone must show ID so be prepared for that, since they allow 18 and up, they card everyone. Candiie, the server, immediately asked me what I wanted when I walked in. The entire night my drink never ended. She would always make sure I had a drink. Even when it got very crowded. If I still had O’Malley’s I would hire her on the spot, she is wonderful.

Overall it was a nice experience for hanging with a group of friends. There are tables everywhere and because of this there isn’t a lot of mingling. I usually will have someone come up to me, but in here, it is very hard for that to happen. Now that being said, if I played Beer Pong, then that would lend itself to a very social environment. Especially with the live music, makes you lean close to hear.

At 11pm it is packed on a Monday, not where you can’t walk through the crowd, but nearly standing room only. I would be surprised if I found a place this packed on a Monday night.

If you like looking at beautiful women then that is a plus because this place has lots of young women.

After drinking a few I started asking for second opinions, of course asked a hot chick from Wisconsin about the bar and she said she really like this place; the beer and live music. I met two other attractive women Kandyce Patton (pictured right) and Tiffanie Newsom. (pictured left is Tiffanie) Kandyce said, “This is the best bar in Corpus”. She came for the Beer Pong. Tiffanie said, “I love this bar, it’s the only one I will go to”.

I met with the Manager, Angela Almazan, (pictured left) she was very personable and attractive I might add. Although, by-the-time I was able to speak with her, my speaking skills were not very coherent. She was very understanding non-the-less.

Tuesday – No Review

Wednesday

Visit #1 May 30th 2012: The DJ Chris Alvarez (pictured right) was playing some awesome music! There was plenty of hot women to look at and the service was wonderful with Candiie.

After a few, Jennifer and I came up with an idea…. I would walk up to a woman and say, “Are your boobs real? I think they are, but Jenn wants to feel them to make sure.” Lol, it worked on a few. We just get too crazy sometimes.

We met April Padilla, a fun and exciting woman! Her and Jennifer got along great.

It would have been a perfect night except when they closed, they started yelling for everyone to leave. We received our last drinks at 1:57am and by 2:04 they were standing by our table demanding we leave. Now TABC allows consumption till 2:15am, however at that time the glasses must be empty. As a ex-bar owner of a bar that was 3 times this size, we didn’t even start picking up all drinks and dumping them until 2:10am, which was plenty of time for us. I understand the need to get people out so the closing work can be done, I just personally feel a business should do it in a much nicer way. These people are your customers and keeping them happy, without crossing a line should be important. I personally have chosen to give certain bars my business just because when they close, they do not freak out and start yelling at everyone. Anyway, Jennifer and I complied nicely, but felt it could have been handled much better.

Visit #2: Tonight the drink special was 75cent Lone Star and $2 you call it. The music was played by DJ Chris Alvarez. The Beer Pong drew a few but it didn’t really start to pick up till around midnight, not really packed, but a good crowd. The DJ was playing some great music and kept everything going smooth. Even though it was loud you could still have a conversation.

1am check-in, some women were doing some really dirty dancing on the dance floor and the DJ was pumping great music, fun times!

1:30am and the Beer Pong was over, but the place was still going strong. There were plenty of hot women, lots of eye candy.

If you are looking for a nice crowd, some hot women and a good place to let your hair down, then this is the place to come on Wednesday night.

Visit #3: It was a great night. Sunshine Corliss (pictured left) was with us and checking out Outta Bounds for the first time. She really enjoyed watching all the people. The DJ, Chris Alvarez was pumping out some great music and we were having a lot of fun. Even though it was packed we still had great service.

Visit #4: Nov 21, 2012 Wednesday Tonight was a little different as I had my fiance Jennifer (pictured right) with me and we brought along her cousin Roberta. We had a great time and every time we ordered a drink we bought on for DJ Chris Alvarez. We had a blast.

1am head count was 42.

Thusday

Visit #1: I was with Jennifer this night and Outta Bounds was having Poker Night. The music was provided by the juke box. There was a lot more men than women and again, it felt isolated and not conducive to meeting people. The whole no pictures allowed inside is a pain. We want to remember our experiences. Overall, we left early, just wasn’t happy. Candiie wasn’t working and the cocktail service was suffering.

Friday

Visit #1: 11/02/12 10pm I sat at the bar and immediately started talking with Mikie. she was a very nice woman. The earlier crowd is older with some young ones mixed in. As the night progressed, the crowd became younger and younger. At around 10:30pm some hotties started coming in. Tonight they had live music and I personally didn’t really like the band and the music was so loud if you didn’t like it you couldn’t get away without going outside to the smoking patio.

Visit #2: 11/09/12 10:30pm I sat at the bar and a woman came up and sat next to me. She introduced herself as Donna and starting commenting on my hair. She told me she likes most of the bartenders here, but said, “Thad is awesome” The bar area was extremely friendly tonight and the music was furnished by the jukebox.

By 11pm, some extremely attractive women started coming in, however the place was not very busy. It was easy to talk with others at the bar and there was a nice ratio to men and women.

At midnight, some people started to leave and decided it was time to move on to another place myself.

Saturday - No Review

Sunday - No Review

Summary of Total Experience:

During the week this bar seems much more busy than on the weekends and I have had some incredible times here and met some really nice people. The prices are just incredible, you can usually find some sort of $1 or $2 drink and they offer some sort of entertainment nearly every day of the week. There are lots of recreational things to do also. People watching is great here with all the attractive people, especially during the busy times, but I never did develop a relationship with the bar like I do at many other bars; as in, you walk in and the staff knows you. Of course Candiie was always awesome, but she is gone now. Will I be going back, maybe, it is the best discount place to be. Anyway, I did and do have lots of fond memories of the place.

As a former Bar Owner and Manager of one of the most successful bars in its time, O’Malley’s Bar, my desire is to promote good Bar Management in the industry and have a great time. Nearly all reviews are works in progress as I like to return every now and then to see if the information in the review is still accurate.

This page will be updated often, so check back to get the latest information.

Alaska

Anchorage Bars

Eddie’s Sports Bar – 6300 Old Seward Highway, 907-563-3970

This place has two levels, if you count the basement and you should since most of the action seems to happen down here on the weekends. The basement has live country music and is packed with hot women dancing on the good size dance floor in front of the stage. The main floor is a sports bar with free popcorn and a full menu.

Time Out – 4600 Old Seward Hwy, (907) 562-2532

Our favorite Dive bar. The crowd is older and very friendly. The have free popcorn, free hot dogs, and free soup. On Wednesdays and Thursdays they have karaoke and on Friday and Saturday, a live band.

Texas

Corpus Christi

The Top 5 Least Expensive Places to Buy a Drink in Corpus Christi, TX

I might add, these are places I would actually go to, just because some place offers 25 cent beer, doesn’t mean I would hang out in it.

1. Outta Bounds Sports Lounge – 1402 Rodd Field Rd, (361) 986-0480 – Every night offers some kind of $1 or $2 special.

2. Macaws St. Pub – 6410 Weber Rd, Suite 21, 361-852-9015 – On Thursday & Friday offer $1 well and $1 draft

3. Talons Sports Bar – 506 Saratoga Blvd, – Tuesday & Sunday $2 Domestics: Friday $2 well

4. Cheers – 510 N Chaparral, 361-904-0900 – $2 Jack on Wednesday

The Top 5 Fun Bars in Corpus Christi, TX

This is extremely subjective, but if I go somewhere and not even the Bartender is friendly, chances are, that place will not be on the list. However, if I have a great time, meaning as a guy, women are extremely friendly, and, hmm, well that about sums it up.

1. Molly’s Irish Pub – 4201 McArdle Road, (361) 855-8450

Numerous times I have met women here. Lots of Face Book friends and the staff is great and friendly.

2. It’ll Do Saloon – 4125 Gollihar Rd, 361-855-2766

This is a hard one for this place. Most of the time, nothing really happens, but I have had some crazy times here. Extremely hot women taking their tops off, asking to feel their boobs. It doesn’t happen often and oddly enough these things have happened on a Monday or Tuesday. So it can be a lot of fun or just a normal everyday bar.

3. Jamison’s Sports Pub – 4528 Weber Rd, 361-334-5585

I have had some great experiences here, but that was when DJ Chris Vibe managed, since he left, I just haven’t had as much fun.

4. Oso Rose Beer Garden - 2001 Yorktown

Customers and Bartenders are friendly

Bars with Karaoke in Corpus Christi, TX

For those who love to sing or just watch others do it.

The following 2 bars offer Karaoke 7 days a week:

Jamison’s Sports Pub – 4528 Weber Rd, 361-334-5585
Molly’s Irish Pub – 4201 McArdle Road, (361) 855-8450

Karaoke Wednesday – Saturday

Cheers – 510 N Chaparral, 361-904-0900 -

Bars with Live Music in Corpus Christi, TX

Live music, either you love it or hate it. The following places offer it on a regular basis.

1. Outta Bounds Sports Lounge – 1402 Rodd Field Rd, (361) 986-0480 – Currently on Monday and Friday nights

2. It’ll Do Saloon – 4125 Gollihar Rd, 361-855-2766 – Friday & Saturdays

3. Politics Spirits & Games – 7426 S. Staples St, (361) 882-0030 - Fridays

Corpus Christi Bars

Bills Casino Royale – 3809 Saturn Rd., 361-853-2593

A nice small little bar, but don’t let the name fool you, there is no casino action going on here. It is a cozy kind of place where the regulars are well known. This is a full price bar and never has much in the way of specials. Their pouring system ensures no heavy pouring here.

Cheers – 510 N Chaparral, 361-904-0900

A charming little bar downtown. Always friendly service and people. They do Karaoke up front and if it is not your thing you can go in the back to kind of escape from it.

It’ll Do Saloon – 4125 Gollihar Rd, 361-855-2766

It is an older crowd, over 40. You will find a few young hotties mixed in, but it is hit and miss. Still the service is great and it is a nice little bar. It is also the only place where a woman came up to me at the bar, bought me a couple of drinks, and literally picked me up. So, it can be a very interesting place. I have had some crazy times in this place. They rarely have drink specials, but always have some type of free food out.

Jamison’s Sports Pub – 4528 Weber Rd, 361-334-5585

Jamison’s has a high quality sound system throughout the place and Karaoke every night. They do a special karaoke show called the Bad Boys of Karaoke on Friday’s & Saturday. Personally, you can’t go wrong coming here. The staff, as always, was very nice to look at too.

Lou’s Saloon – 5101 Leopard, 361-882-0723 (Upstairs) 361-884-0246

Lou’s is broken into 2 floors and 2 completely bars. Downstairs it a full price bar. Well drinks are $4.25. It is much quieter, you can actually have a conversation, music by jukebox, playboy pictures on the ceiling, which is a very nice touch. It also has a pool table, shuffle board table, and poker table. They also have free salted peanuts that you drop the shells on the floor. Friday night there were only 4 people in here. Upstairs, live DJ, and is definitely a different experience from the first floor. One thing to note is they were allowing the customers to smoke inside which is the first place I have seen to allow this. The DJ was great though.

Macaws St. Pub – 6410 Weber Rd, Suite 21, 361-852-9015

It can be a different bar from one day to the next. I am not sure where to classify them. They do have a dance floor with a stripper pole, but they are rather small for a club. On the nights they are not doing the “club” thing they are a nice bar. I have mixed reviews, depends on the day of the week I went. Jennifer and I have had a great time here, especially on Thursdays. Lino Suarez, a bartender, always does an outstanding job. He is entertaining all by himself.

Molly’s Irish Pub – 4201 McArdle Road, (361) 855-8450

Molly’s has Karaoke seven days a week and arguably one of the best patio set ups in the city. Every employee I talked to has the utmost respect for the owner, Don Tipps, and see him more as family. He definitely treats his employees right and it shows in the good time to be had each night here.

O’Malley’s Bar – 4706 Corona Dr. (Closed)

Closed, but oh, so many fun memories. As an owner manager it was a blast and to this day I have yet to find a bar similar. I am sure it will happen, just may take a while.

Oso Rose Beer Garden - 2001 Yorktown

This place is a beer only place, no liquor is served, but it is quaint. The staff is really friendly and on the Friday night I went they had some free food laid out.

Outta Bounds Sports Lounge – 1402 Rodd Field Rd, (361) 986-0480

This place has some of the best drink specials every night in Corpus Christi and there is always something going on. Depending on the night, you might find Karaoke, Live Texas Country Music, DJ Chris Alvarez Mixing it up, Poker Tournaments, Beer Pong, and a whole lot of a younger, pretty people.

Politics Spirits & Games – 7426 S. Staples St, (361) 882-0030

Nice crowd and a nice atmosphere, but I am a little jaded. This place has the worst service I have ever experienced from the waitresses. Do yourself a favor and walk up to the bar. It took the waitress 25 minutes to ask me if I wanted a drink, then after I was done another 25 minutes for her to ask if I wanted another. However, she was hot, if that helps.

Vernon’s – 1030 3rd Street, (361) 882-0030

Always a nice group of older generation frequent this time-tested wonderful establishment. It is personally one of my favorite places. I have been coming here for years. They always have ice cold beer, free popcorn and peanuts; a place where you just throw the peanuts on the floor and have a good time.

Hours: M-F 2pm – 2am Sat & Sun: Noon – 2am

Synopsis:
Jamison’s prides itself on having a high quality sound system throughout the place and they demonstrate this pride with Karaoke every night. I always crank up the volume in my car on the way over there, so when I walk in, my ears are already adjusted. Dubbing themselves as the Bad Boys of Karaoke, Adrian Medina (no longer works here) and Scuba Steve, they offer more of a Karaoke entertainment show than just your typical put your name on a list type. So if you get a chance come check out the difference.

Personally, you can’t go wrong coming here, especially if drinking pitchers of beer is your thing.

Drink Specials:

Monday: $2.00 Jack $2.00 pints

$5.00 Personal Pitchers of Liquor
$6.00 Irish Car Bombs

However their pitcher beer prices are great!

Premium: $4.75

Place to Charge Phone: There are a couple of places, but I usually just asked the bartender.

Wi-Fi: NO

Cover Charge: Never

Credit Cards Received: Standard

Dress Code & Age Allowed in (21 & up): There is a sign posted about the dress code. I have heard it said there is a strict No Gangs or even the appearance of gang involvement allowed in.

Atmosphere:

Music Type – Live, DJ, Jukebox, Karaoke
Wed: Karaoke
Thurs: Karaoke
Fri: Karaoke
Sat: Karaoke

Noise Levels: It does get loud in here especially with a full crowd and the music makes this place move. Jennifer and I always turn the car stereo up all the way on our way here, so by the time we get here, it doesn’t seem loud at all.

Light Level: Lighted enough to see across the bar, but dark enough to feel inviting.

Crowd type: Although it doesn’t get as crowded as more established places, it does have it’s fair share of eye candy. Although there are plenty of friendly women in here, Jennifer gets a lot more action than I do, probably why she likes it so much here. I have only gotten a few facebook female contacts from meeting them here, but the ones I have gotten are gorgeous! The bar staff is usually very enjoyable to look at and Daniella Galvan (no longer works here) (pictured left) and Roxanna Morales (no longer works here) (pictured right) are perfect examples of an extremely hot staff.

Smoking Area: Nice outside partially covered area. They offer multiple TV’s outside so you can make sure you don’t miss the action.

Food Served: No food is served

Dance Floor: There is a space in front of the Karaoke area that most people use for dancing.

Bathrooms:

Mens: 4 urinals and 1 stall, which can accommodate this place nicely.

Womens: I don’t have enough information since the new management came in.

Amenities: 2 Pool Tables, 1 Shuffle Board, 2 Real Dart Boards, 1 Golden Tee, 1 Big Buck Safari

Types of Seating: Bar Stools and High Tables

Service: Mostly Bartender driven but on the weekend they have cocktail servers.

Most of time the Bartenders are pretty quick and the cocktail staff has turned itself around and will take care of you.

Free Pour: The bartenders free pour

Visit #1: My friend Stephen calls this place “an Upscale Dive”. I had a great time as more friends showed up, Addison Gregg and his beautiful date Jamisa Marie K (pictured left). Jamisa said, “This is a really nice place” We ended up all having a really wonderful time. The crowd wasn’t as big, but there was a lot of Karaoke people signing some really great songs. The fun factor was great. I love this place, I can’t say it enough… I had a great time.

Friday

Visit #1: They just recently lost their Manager and he was the bomb.com As I return for a Friday follow up, it is dead in here. I think many people will kind of boycott this place in the beginning, just because this bar was dying when he came and he built it up. Jamison’s is know for coming from the ashes, but this is certainly a huge blow and time will tell.

Visit #2: November 09, 2012 12:15am Immediately when I walked in the beautiful Candance Huff (pictured left) called out to me of course the first thing she asked was “where’s your better half” looking around for her, lol. Still it was nice visiting with her.

I sat at the bar and Roxanna was there to take care of me. Roxanna has a wonderful heart and her loyalty to this bar is something that needs to be commended.

Tonight had a nice crowd for a place rising from the ashes and looks like it may rise again.

Saturday

Visit #1: November 11, 2012 10:45pm I walked in an sat down at a table and Marisa Moya was there really quickly to take my order. The service has improved considerably, she was awesome all night long.

The Karaoke Show was the “Bad Boys of Karaoke”. It was kind of an a cross between improv comedy and Karaoke. They plan to do some skits in the future to add to the entertain value. All I know is I was laughing throughout the night; not-to-mention the plethora of hot women was visually stimulating.

Midnight check in – The midnight count of customer’s was 59. The bartender’s tonight were sexy and Rachel Morales was not afraid to show off her sexy body!

1am check in – Still going strong, but the amount of sexy women has greatly increased, hmm… they seem to get hotter as the night goes on, lol.

It was wonderful meeting Tasha.

2:02am – Karaoke was finishing up the last song of the night and they allowed people to finish their drinks at their own pace, very nice. At 2:10am all drinks were off the tables and the place was pretty empty except employees. Wonderful evening to a great time.

Sunday – No Review

Summary of Total Experience:

I had some wonderful experiences in this place, however it is currently in a state of flux; with the firing of DJChris, there will be a natural slow period. He was instrumental in building this place back up. The new management is very inexperienced, however eager and have a strong drive to succeed. They have at least made a great decision in bringing in Scuba Steve to augment an already strong Karaoke show, but will Jamison’s be the legendary Phoenix or the next meal devoured by the competition, time will tell.

Some of these articles may offend, some are just satirical, some are a little too adult, and some are just ordinary. Of course I probably only have two articles listed below, but I plan to have more eventually.

I started this website to help others succeed in different aspects of business applications, however, today it has morphed into a more personalize site. There is still a lot of great information and it will only continue to grow over the coming years, but as I move on in my life, I want to be able to look back at my adventures from time to time and recording it on a website makes it extremely accessible to me for my perusing pleasure and others as well. The previous format just didn’t support my occasional rant or that crazy break up I wanted to talk about and although I wrote those articles a long time ago, they just floated around the site without any real link to them. Well, now they do. So, sit back and enjoy.

Stop the Madness: The Hypocrisy of The Vegan

This all came about because of another article I read where a Vegan calls out a non Vegan without looking at his own actions. Although, I wrote this using Vegans as a basis it refers to all kinds of situations in general. However, it seemed to have spurred some passionate comments. Anyway, I am sure many of you have seen this before where someone condemns another and yet they do the exact same thing, it is madness I tell ya!

Unexpected Break Up & Road Trip

Perhaps this should have be called Unexpected Road Trip & Break Up, as the break up was inevitable it seemed. Anyway, fast forward to today and that part of my life is over.

This is a collection of my personal “How To” articles. I only wish I would have had the foresight to record the hundreds of things I have fixed over the years via some programing code because inevitably the same issues would arise and I would think, hmm, how the hell did I fix that the last time. So, this collection helpful guides is not just for you guys, but it also adds as a reference for me. As technology moves forward some of these fixes, at least in the computer world, may become dated. However, others, such as losing weight, will be of value probably till the world gets swallowed by the Sun.
