So, I am looking at the price of plat on the Live Gamer website, the one that hosts the auctions for in-game plat and I think, that is a really nice concept. I gotta see how this works. So, I download the Vanguard free trial and launch the game. Bam! blue screen of death. Then I restart the computer and now the game just loads the start-up screen and then goes right back to the desktop. Okay, time to fix some issues…
To fix the game not launching and going to desktop, I deleted my cache files in the game:
Find the Vanguard/bin/caches folder and just delete everything in folder. The game will re-download those corrupted files and everything should work fine.
My blue screen of death was associated with ha20x2k.sys which is a soudblaster driver file. Now a few weeks ago I had a power surge and my soundblaster was knock out. I guess I need to get rid of the drivers associated with it someday, but that is another lesson. Anyway the fix for this is:
Locate the VGclient.ini in your vanguard/bin folder.
Open VGclient.ini with notebook. Find OpenALDeviceName= and change it to OpenALDeviceName=Generic Software
Well, now the game works like a charm… time to get back to work, learning the game itself.
