How to Change the Favicon.ico

This article will show you how to change the favicon.ico on WordPress.  Most likely whatever theme you loaded on your WordPress blog came with a little favicon.  The favicon is the little icon next to the url.  My should be showing the following image: In order to do this you can take any image and use a favicon generator and viola.

The first thing I did was go to Cool Text to design my logo.  It is a free logo and button site.  Pretty nice, especially since it is free and generated online.  All my text imagines have been designed there.  Once at the Cool Text site,  make whatever logo you want.  Then right click on the image and select  save image as.

Next head over to FavIcon. Once the site loads, click on Browse and find your logo image. The website will convert it to favicon.ico.  Then you select download only favicon.ico and a page will appear with your tiny logo in the corner.  You right click on the logo and select save image as. The name favicon.ico should already be loaded.  You save your new pic.

Next to log into cpanel, hopefully you are using HostGator, and select File Manager. Once that page loads you should see a search box in the top right hand corner.  Type in favicon and hit Go. The search should tell you where the old favicon is located.  Go to that directory and upload your new favicon.ico and that is it.

You now have your own little logo.  Oh, it will take a while for it to show up unless you delete your temporary internet files.  If you do not then it will take a while to show up on your computer, but new people coming to your site will see it immediately.

Have a great day,

JD
