I have decided to try a Polyphasic Sleep Project. For those who do not know what this is, it means sleeping multiple times throughout a 24 hour period. Most people have monophasic sleep patterns where they sleep once a day. I grew up, like most, being told we need 8 hours of sleep a day and the human body can not function with only sleeping a couple of hours a day. Also, that we need to have REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and that it only occurs during a 90 minute sleep cycle. Well, now-a-days we know this all to be false, however, sleeping only a couple of hours a day, is it really possible. There have been others that have tried, few have succeeded and most have failed. Of the two major Polyphasic Sleep Schedules, Uberman and Everyman, Uberman is by far, much more difficult and the chances of success are slim to none. Of course, this is what I am starting with If someone can manage under 3 and half hours of sleep a day for months on end, I would count them an Uberman, although there is supposedly an Everyman schedule that is only 3 hours, but com’on who is really doing all these schedules. The thing is, do what you feel is right for you and let’s be clear, if so many people fail at this, then is what we are told around the web true or is in just information someone else said and we all regurgitate the same info and it is propagated throughout the web, let’s find out…

What I want to know is:

Can I maintain good health?

I have not had so much as a cold in over 5 years, since before 2005, that is when I started saying I don’t get sick

Will I be able to maintain concentration and good mental faculties?

Will I be able to work-out, build muscle?

My work outs consists of heavy weights to failure, so it will be easy to determine if Polyphasic is detrimental to strength training.

Will I not go crazy, of course that is if I am not already.

I will start the 1st few days sleeping 8 times during a 24hr period; getting about 25 minutes each session and my times for sleep will be 2, 5, 8, 11, both am and pm. Wish me luck

Update
Beginning Day 5, I have switched the sleep sessions to the Uberman Polyphasic Sleep schedule and now am “sleeping” 6 times a day for about 18 minutes each time. The times are 3-7-11. I might add that this would be 1hr 48 min sleep a day. Idk, seems a little extreme.

Update for March 2011 – Goal Average Under 3 hrs a Day:
Beginning day 36 I am starting new JDMan Polyphasic Sleep Schedule. It is a hybrid of the Uberman and many of the Everyman variations. I call it the JDMan Polyphasic Sleep Schedule It has 5 sessions. Four sessions are 20 minutes or less and 1 session is 1 hour 40 minutes. This will give you a total of just under 3 hours a day of sleep.

The 1st session is for 1 hour 40 minutes

9 hours later after the start of your 1st session you take a 20 minute or less nap.

4 hours later you take a 20 minute or less nap

4 hours later you take a 20 minute or less nap

4 hours later you take a 20 minute or less nap

4 hours later you take a 20 minute or less nap

3 hours later you start the cycle over

For example, my sessions are: 6am start, 3pm next, 7pm next, 11pm next, 3am next.

A couple of things to note. I start my timer at 20 minutes and since it takes time to fall asleep, your sleep time will be under 20 minutes. I also do not adhere 100% to the schedule it can be flexible. I try to sleep when I am tired and not waste time of laying down if I am wide awake.

Latest Update:
After achieving great success with Polyphasic Sleep, I have developed what will be my optimum and final schedule I believe. It my seem extreme, but I have found it to be much easier then other schedules. I do not suffer any “brain fog” or all the weird effects I have experienced with Polyphasic. I actually feel quite normal, well, with the exception of more energy and oddly an increased libido. Anyway if you have found your way to this page then I would suggest you try either my schedule directly or a variation, it makes Polyphasic so much easier, although it looks harder, it is not.

JD’s 10 Minute Nap Schedule
3 hour core with four 10 minute naps = 3 hours & 40 minutes a day. The following is my exact schedule:

4am – Core Sleep – 3 hours

11am – Nap 10 minutes, however I do skip this one from time-to-time

3pm – Nap 10 minutes

7pm – Nap 10 minutes

11pm – Nap 10 minutes

Notice the time jump from the end of the day to the beginning. Instead of being 4 hours, like the rest, it is 5 hours. A couple of items to note, I drink coffee whenever I want. I even drink alcohol nightly. I work out, not as much as I like and that is not from lack of energy, just my procrastination. This schedule is flexible as I tend to skip the 11am nap and I will push other times back by 2 hours sometimes. Also, if you follow my daily blogs about it you might notice sometimes my naps are only 2 – 5 minutes long. It happens and when I awake I feel perfectly fine. So, if you only sleep a portion of the 10 minutes, that is fine. However, please, always set your timer for 12 minutes. That way you should be asleep in 2 minutes, if not, don’t worry about it. Also, don’t beat yourself up if you have a 12 hour sleep day. It hasn’t happen to me yet, but if it does, just go right back to the schedule.

People ask me why I do it, why not just sleep like everyone else, and you know, I don’t really have an answer for them. However, I have come to realize, perhaps it is not the answer that matters, but the question. As I then usually ask, why do you sleep monophasic? Why sleep all that extra time away? Sure sometimes it is nice to just lay in bed all day if that is your wish, but even monophasic hibernators don’t do that too often. Just do what you feel is enjoyable. The JD’s 10 Minute Nap Schedule should be easy and not a hassle or a chore, but something that is just natural.

You guys take care and sleep well,

I had this problem where I received a Visa gift card, but once it got down to around $1.10 it was hard to find anyone to accept it, much less the ones for 30 cents. So, my solution was to create a place to accept these nearly worthless cards and then I thought, “what if there are other people with the same problem and just want to get rid of them.”

So, I created this little button. Now, it accepts all forms of major gift cards, like Discover, Visa, Master Card and so on, but I haven’t really had any luck with my Discover card ones. As to my Visa ones, I did register my Visa Vanilla gift card before using the button below. To register at the Vanilla site they just ask for your zip code.

Anyway, after selecting Master Card or Visa button below, you can change the quantities to make it match the remaining balance on your card. Also after selecting the button below you will notice on the lower right side the option to pay as a guest with a Visa, Master Card, etc instead of using a paypal account.

Now for the Charity part. We are talking pennies here and there are fees on my end, not yours, anyway 10% of all income received will be donated, once $10 in accrued to be donated, I will choose a charity that accepts paypal and make the donation. Well, thanks for stopping by and hope this is useful for ya.

Business & Personal Blog

It has been around 9 months since my last blog. Time has a way of moving forward like a river and no matter what you do it just keeps going and flowing. I have shied away from Internet Marketing and just focused on my Sports Betting. I will be making changes to the website, slowly, removing ads mostly except perhaps Amazon. Going to move in a more personal site, an information site, mainly for myself, but of course anyone that stumbles upon it will probably find some useful information. Right now, I am slowly relearning how to even build websites again and stuff, however, I don’t plan to spend too much time on this, well, I guess time will tell.

As of right now I have had a great season in the NFL, NHL, and NCAAB, currently only NBA remains. Hopefully it too will end positive and I will have had and incredible over all season.

Personal Blog

My life has gone through many changes of late and I still can not really discuss them on my open website. As much as I would love too, there are other people to consider. Although, I expect that all to change soon and I will be able to forge head long into a world of self discover and see where I end up.

Mini Review:

I watched “What’s Your Number?” last night and I gotta say. I really liked it. Although I have to admit, I was thinking the same as the main character, for a woman, I didn’t think 20 different guys was too terribly high, lol, maybe I just haven’t met the right women, lol. Anyway, it was a fun movie and I laughed quiet a few times.

G’night and have a wonderful day or night.

Life is too short not to live long,

Total Sleep Time: 2 hrs 25 min

Artesian Water

1 Organic Apple

I tried to sleep, but just wasn’t tired. However I was able to rest.

7am – 1 hour 52 min

Meals

2 cups of coffee

1 Whataburger Potato, egg, & cheese taquito (Yummo!)

I had originally laid down for a 1.5 hour session. I had to start work at 9am so I was a little concerned. I set 2 cell phone alarms and my computer alarm. I was also starting this core about 30 minutes late. Anyway, I finally got up with my computer alarm, but I was so sleepy and couldn’t concentrate and knew this was going to be a problem. So, I thought I would try a 10 minute nap and see what would happen and sure enough, I woke via my cell phone and was wide awake and felt 100% better. I wasn’t tired at all. I was ecstatic, because now I could easily do my work without any drowsiness.

I was too busy working and skipped this session.

Total Sleep Time: 2 hrs 25 min

Thus ends day 89 of the Polyphasic Sleep Project and overall I was surprised at how easy it was to skip so many sessions when your brain is active the whole time as in playing a massive mult-player online game such as DAOC.

Total Sleep Time: 4 hrs 30 min

Thus ends day 88 of the Polyphasic Sleep Project and overall I did pretty good considering I skipped so many sessions. That 4 hour core though was unexpected and I have to be careful especially when it comes to the weekend as many of my sports betting games are played early.

I am the little baby in the center at 2 months old. As the caption says, this is Thanksgiving November 28, 1968.

As for the people in the photo, I never knew any of them and that includes my father Johnny Howard pictured holding me. There is a whole other half of my family I know nothing about, of course I don’t know much about my current family outside of my immediate ones and a few cousins.

Anyway, soon, within the next few years, I will be changing all that and reconnecting or just plain connecting with everyone in my family and my soul-mates. At least, that is the plan.

Let’s face it, cats are smart. They’re independent. They simply don’t want to be told what to do. That’s why they say “dogs have masters but cats have staff”!

Checking Netflix Instant Watch releases and adding the following to my queue:

Adventures of a Teenage Dragonslayer – On the outside, 12-year-old Arthur (Hunter Allan) looks like your typical nerd, harassed by bullies and hopelessly awkward. But a blue-skinned troll (Richard Sellers) with magic powers knows that Arthur is far above average — and that he holds the key to saving civilization. In the meantime, Arthur has to convince his mom (Lea Thompson) that he isn’t making up stories about his school’s evil vice principal (Wendie Malick) and a powerful dragon.

For some reason Netflix seems to think I would like this movie. We shall see.

Total Sleep Time: 3 hr 38 min

3am – Skipped

Meals

Artesian Water

1 Glass of Wine

I was pretty much awake so I didn’t bother trying to sleep when this time slot came up

7am – 35 min

Meals

Artesian Water

1 slice of pizza

I went to sleep 2 times. The first time was for 5 minutes and the 2nd for 30, both I was awaken by phone and/or IMs

11am – 26 min

Meals

Artesian Water

6 Jalapeno Pretzels

I had planned on just sleeping 10 minutes, but I turned off my timer and went right back to sleep. I was awaken by a phone call.

3pm – 2 hours 30 min

Started Early about 2 hours

Meals

Artesian Water

2 pieces of chocolate candy

I was very tired and thought I would just lay down for 10 minutes. I received texts and a phone call that woke me up, but I kept just falling right back to sleep. I eventually woke on my own.

7pm – 7 min

Started Late – about an hour

Meals

Artesian Water

Cousin called about getting back into Dark Age of Camelot. So I started looking into it. Took a while to fall asleep and then my phone let me know I had to plug it in, so all-in-all not a lot of sleep.

11pm – Skipped

Meals

Artesian Water

My cousin and I started playing DAoC and so I just played right through this nap session.

on game

Total Sleep Time: 3 hr 38 min

Thus ends day 87 of the Polyphasic Sleep Project and overall I was okay, but a little tired. If you will notice, I didn’t have a single drop of coffee, so without that, I was feeling a little sluggish as I am used to at least 3 cups a day.

Sleep Well,

JD

Those merchant tents surround the court house in the center of town. There is usually music playing and lots of food merchants too. This event happens in many of the small towns in the county and they stagger the Saturdays so no two events are happening at the same time. For some merchants this is all the work they do to make a living; traveling from town-to-town each Saturday.

Those spiny things sticking up are the trees that were recently severely cut back all around the square. It makes it look like something out of a dark bayou scene with death all around.

Total Sleep Time: 3 hr 31 min

3am – Skipped

Meals

Artesian Water

1 glass of wine

1 slice of pizza

I just wasn’t tired and was watching tv stuff so….

7 am – 1 hour 15 minutes

Meals

Artesian Water

4 Jalapeno Pretzels

I was going for 1.5 hours but woke early and strangely didn’t feel like going back to sleep.

11am – 14 min

Meals

Artesian Water

1 cup of coffee

2 Jalapeno Pretzels

I went right to sleep, but Callie came in to lay down with me and woke me. However, after I woke via my cell phone I just went right back to sleep, but then woke up soon after.

3pm – 10 min

Meals

Artesian Water

1 cup of coffee

1 Jalapeno Pretzels

I was getting really tired coming into this time. I fell right to sleep and started dreaming. I was dreaming how tired I was and I needed to take a nap, so when my alarm went off, I was confused. “How could I have been asleep if I was just about to lay down for a nap” Took me a while to realize I was dreaming about talking a nap while I was actually taking one.

7pm – 10 min

Started late – about 2 hours

Meals

Artesian Water

4 cups of coffee

1 order of Chips

1 order of crazy bread from Little Caesars

After I left Main Street Coffee Bar, I was extremely tired. I pulled into Little Caesars and ordered some crazy bread and ate it right there sitting in my truck in the parking lot and I knew I was too tired to drive. So, I eased my seat back, slid the windows down, and fell asleep. I a woke via my cell phone alarm and drove home.

11pm – 1 hour 42 min

Meals

Artesian Water

I laid back in my chair at my desk and fell right to sleep. I woke on my own with no alarm as I wasn’t expecting to fall asleep

Total Sleep Time: 3 hr 31 min

Thus ends day 86 of the Polyphasic Sleep Project and overall I was doing fine for hardly sleeping until the very end there. I am still tired right now, but I will wake up soon.

Sleep Well,

Total Sleep Time: 5 hrs 39 min

4am – 3 hours 57 min

Meals

Artesian Water

1 glass of wine

1 t-bone steak

I woke up fine after 1.5 hours, but then didn’t want to get out of bed so I went back to sleep. My phone died, but luckily Elizabeth started IMing me over and over and sending emails; each time my computer went off and made noise. Eventually it woke me up. So thank you honey

7am – skipped

I was still asleep during this time

11am – skipped

Meals

Artesian Water

1 cup of coffee

I was still pretty much awake and thought I would just sleep at 3pm

How to Easily Train Your Cat to Walk On a Leash

If you’re like most cat owners, you probably think that training a cat to do anything – much less to walk on a leash – is nearly impossible!

Let’s face it, cats are smart. They’re independent. They simply don’t want to be told what to do. That’s why they say “dogs have masters but cats have staff”!

Click Here! to watch a video on walking a cat and to learn more

3pm – skipped

Meals

Work-out: Back

Meals

Artesian Water

1 Mocha

BBQ chicken

I was working out so I decided I would wait to take a nap until later, but I never did.

7pm - 1 hour 42 min

Started Late – about 1.5 hours

Meals

Artesian Water

6 Slices of Pizza from Pizza Hut

I was exhausted by the time I fell asleep. I set my timer for 12 minutes and each time I woke I would just set it again. I didn’t want to get up. After 3 times, I just fell asleep with no timer. However, I woke pretty easily finally and got up.

11pm – skipped

Meals

Artesian Water

I wasn’t awake for very long when this time session started and thought I would just take the nap at 3am.

Total Sleep Time: 5 hrs 39 min

Thus ends day 84 of the Polyphasic Sleep Project and overall I seem to not be very Polyphasicee lately. I am all over the place on time slots and schedules. I guess it does show how versatile Polyphasic Sleep can actually be. Hopefully tomorrow will go smoother.

Sleep Well,
